Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum has an absolutely wonderful career-oriented program and event.
Design Hive (Paid Design Internship for High School Juniors + Seniors) Design Hive is a paid, youth-led initiative at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. High school juniors and seniors dive deep into design objects and processes to develop their own collaborative projects. Students receive mentorship from working designers, and are offered access to the museum’s exhibitions, objects, and people. The group works together to design a world that is more responsible, equitable, and collaborative. Sessions take place on Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Cooper Hewitt on the UES. Students are paid a stipend of $2,000 for their participation in the yearlong program. A flyer is attached, and Cooper Hewitt is hosting an info session next Tuesday to help students learn more about applying. (Sorry for the short notice, but I just received this!) Design Career Fair (Free Event) Cooper Hewitt has a great annual Design Career Fair.
High school students have the opportunity to speak with National Design Award winners, guest designers, and colleges on the many pathways toward design. Students may sign up for free to join us individually, or educators are welcome to sign up for a group to join us together! A flyer is attached for this free program, which will take place Tuesday, October 3rd from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Learn more and sign up here!
